INFORMATION FOR PATIENTS WITH SYMPTONS OF SUSPECTED SWINE FLU The incubation period after infection is 1-7 days
Symptoms of infection include fever, cough, runny nose, limb/joint pain and headache
Patients with any of these symptoms who suspect they may be infected should:- Avoid contact with other people as much as possible
- Cover nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, using a tissue when possible
- Dispose of dirty tissues promptly and carefully
- Maintain good basic hygiene, for example washing hands frequently with soap and water to reduce the spread of the virus from your hands to face or to other people
- Clean hard surfaces (eg door handles) frequently using a normal cleaning product
- Make sure your children follow this advice
- And then telephone NHS Direct on 08 45 46 47 or their GP for advice and assistance and to arrange further clinical assessment as necessary.
They are asked NOT to visit their GP or other health services directly.
CHICKENPOX
If you suspect your child has chickenpox PLEASE do not attend the surgery. Please telephone and speak to either the nurse practitioner or the doctor who will give appropriate advice.
